Help in Teaching Ceramics

As everyone who teaches ceramics has learned, the subject is vast and teaching it can be daunting.  This is especially true for people who have not had the benefit of good teachers or years of experience but find themselves teaching ceramics as part of an art curricululm. Because we at the K12 Foundation are aware of these realities, we decided to use our website, contacts, and experience as a resource for teachers responsible for teaching ceramics.  We aim to be a useful clearinghouse for all teachers of ceramics.
This website has been designed to include:

  • Lesson plans
  •
  • Teacher handouts for use in the classroom
  •
  • Digital images for teachers to use in the classroom
  •
  • Resource people for teachers to contact personally for help
  •
  • Workshop information and resources teachers can contact to arrange for school visits
  •
  • Safety information about ceramics and ceramic materials and processes
  •
  • Suggestions for places to find specific information
  •
  • Corporate resources for teachers
  •
  • The K-12 Digital Image room at the NCECA Conference is also part of the Foundation`s work with K-12 clay teaching. It will have a link on this site too.
  •

As our site is being prepared today, we are building these parts and others. The K12 Foundation has organized a committee to assemble these parts and continue to improve this aspect of our program.

Currently our committee includes K12 Exhibition Board Members Leah Schlief-Freese, Paula Sibrack-Marion, Barbara Beasley, Francis Johnson, Clay Sewell, and Judith Schwartz.  We are looking for more people who want to work with us or who have useful information we can include on this site.
