We ask that you please read everything on this page before submitting your entries!
For over forty-five years he has been very active as a professional artist and as a teacher. As an artist, he has exhibited his work in over two-hundred-and-forty exhibitions in the United States, Japan, Canada, Russia, Latvia, and Korea. His work is in major collections throughout the world, including the Pushkin Museum, in Russia; the Riga Museum of Art, in Latvia; the Byung-Tak Woo Public Collection, in Korea; the Sea of Japan Collection, in Japan; and The Butler Institute of American Art, in the United States. In the past three years, he has had exhibitions of his work in Denver, Colorado; Hot Springs, Arkansas; Lincoln, Nebraska; Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Columbus, Ohio; Kansas City, Missouri; and Kearney, Nebraska. This past year (2009), he has had exhibitions of his work at the Halcyon Contemporary Art Gallery/Sheldon Swope Art Museum, Terre Haute, Indiana; the Haggerty Gallery, Dallas, Texas; the Christel DeHaan Fine Art Gallery, Indianapolis, Indiana; and the Sisson Gallery, Dearborn, Michigan. (The Sisson Gallery was an exhibition titled ‘Three Living Legends’ with artists Val Cushing and Victor Spinski.) Over the past twenty years, he received five University Arts Endowment Grants from Indiana State University to help support his work.
He is a much sought after lecturer and has been invited to lecture about his work at over a hundred-and-fifty universities in the United States, Canada, Latvia, Russia, and Korea. In the United States, he has been a guest lecturer at Princeton University, the University of Delaware, the University of Florida, the University of North Dakota, the University of Kansas, the University of Illinois, the University of Eastern New Mexico, Indiana University, Arizona State University, Louisiana State University, Auburn University, and Southern Georgia University, among others.
In 1991, he was one of fifteen American artists invited to lecture at the Dzintari Art Institute, Jurmala, Latvia; and in 1995, he was one of three American artists invited to lecture at the Muju International Art Symposium, in Muju, Korea. He has been listed in Who’s Who In American Art since 1972. In the tenth anniversary edition of ‘Arts Indiana,’ he was included as a ‘State Art Treasure.’ (This is a listing of Indiana writers, performing and visual artists.) In 2008, he was awarded their ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by Arts Illiana, of the State of Indiana.
He has been a member of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts since 1967, and he was president of this organization for two years. He was awarded the ‘Fellowship of the Council’ by this organization in 1977.

QUALITY
· Please submit only .jpg images which are preferably 72 dpi and not greater than 640 x480 in size.
· Please use a photo editing software such as Photo Shop, Adobe Image Maker or some other software to make sure you correct all images for proper lighting shadows and glare prior to submission on the web site. This is because the Juror will see exactly what you submit.
· When taking your photos, we suggest a neutral, one color background so that the ceramic art stands out in contrast to the background.
· Please note: Submit Digital JPEG images directly to our web site.
· Submit entry fee at time of entry on line or fee can be mailed

CALENDAR
· Digital images/Submitted to web site from Monday after Thanksgiving thru Jan 10, 2010
· Notification of accepted entries emailed to teachers first 2 weeks in February
· Accepted Work must be shipped to show via our designated carrier in time to arrive in the host one week before the show.
· Opening Reception is Wednesday, March 31, 2010, 4:30 - 5:30 PM
· Exhibition Opens Wednesday March 31, 2010, 10:00 AM
· Exhibition Closes Friday, April 2, 2010 at 4 PM
· ALL WORK HAND DELIVERED MUST BE PICKED UP AT CONVENTION CENTER. WE WILL NOT RETURN MAIL HAND DELIVERED WORK.
ELIGIBILITY
· Open to all K-12 students sponsored by their teachers, in public and private schools, after school ceramic programs or summer school ceramic programs, (in the United States only) both NCECA members and non-members.
· Only works made primarily of clay and completed within the last two years will be accepted.
· Work previously submitted within the last two years but not selected ARE eligible for entry.
· TEACHERS! Please self-jury work and submit what is considered best quality for the age group. Only work done exclusively by the student is eligible.
· We ask that each teacher limit their entries to no more than 20 total entries from each school due to limited space.
ENTRY FEES
· Entry fee is $30.00 for each 10 individual entries.
· If submitting two picture views of same piece that counts as one Entry.
· Enter on web site as image numb one and image numb 2.
· Fees are due when entry is submitted on-line using Pay Pal.
· We will accept mail in payment by check or money order payable to National K12 Ceramic Exhibit.
· No entry is accepted to final phase until payment is received.
· Fees cover exhibition costs only.
· Entry deadline is Jan 10, 2010 at midnight on the web site.
ENTRY CHECKLIST and MAILING ADDRESSES:
· The entry form is submitted on-line.
· Labels for accepted work are found at the end of this information.
· Print two copies, one for your files and one for the bottom of any accepted works to be mailed attached to the work when mailed to the exhibit. These labels must be taped to the bottom of the accepted work when sent to exhibit.
· Entry label must include the name of the artist, grade, school, title teachers name, city and state.
· Please NOTE: if the work does not have an identifying label attached, it might not be put on display.

DIGITAL IMAGE PREPARATION
· Teachers will need to create an account, username and password.
· If students are entering for themselves, they can do this and enter the teacher`s name.
· Format must be JPEG, please, no larger than 480 X 640.
· Please enter the information for each digital image asked for on the entry window: The site will not accept large files or incomplete information.
(Suggestion from a Mac user which resolved submission issue: Mac OSX users can convert large size pictures by sharing through iPhoto: then email to yourself in a smaller size.)
· School name/teacher/email address
· Name of artist & grade level
· Title of Work - all work must be titled.
Please make sure there are no symbols, periods, commas, quotation marks or numbers in the title of the image you are trying to submit, only letters. If there is a second view, list the title and then view two.
· With each entry you must include the dimensions: h x w x d (in.) WEIGHT MUST NOT EXCEED 35 LBS.
· You will only be allowed to enter 2 IMAGES per work.
· Two views of one piece count as one entry.
· Digital images of accepted work might be used for publicity purposes.
· Please use only quality images.
· Make sure the image is in vertical format. (No images upside down or sideways will be considered)

DELIVERY/RETURN OF ACCEPTED WORKS
· Upon acceptance, you must ship work via our designated trucking carrier (you will be given details of shipping instructions in an email to those selected for the show).
· You must ship in time for pieces to arrive at the dates designated in your instructions.
· NO OTHER SHIPPING ARRANGEMENTS WILL BE ALLOWED EXCEPT HAND DELIVERED WORK.
· Please consider size and weight of work before entering.
· Large, heavy pieces are difficult and costly to ship.
· Detailed packing and shipping information will be posted on this web site.
· All shipping will be handled by the designated carrier.
· The window of delivery to the exhibition is within 6 to 9 business days.
· Please be aware of distance from your state to the exhibition site.
· Receiver pays on return delivery of original artwork.
· All shipping forms must be filled out correctly.
· Information for filling out forms, for selected works, will be on web site or provided to those accepted to show by email.
· Other details will follow on web-site concerning exact location of the K12 exhibit in the convention center.
· Each school/teacher/student is responsible for own shipping costs.
· We need volunteers to help host, set up, and take down the show.
· Please contact Leah Schlief-Freese if you can volunteer any time between Tuesday until Friday at the exhibition site.
· Your help will be greatly appreciated.
· Setup is Tuesday 10 AM ; pack-up/pick-up is Friday beginning at 4 PM.
AWARDS
· Potential scholarships, merit awards, recognition prizes and gift certificates will be given at all levels.
· Work will be divided in different categories: K-5th, 6th-8th, 9th-10th, 11th -12th.
· Scholarship awards for seniors are by application upon request.

Finally,
Over the years we have noted this list of common errors we would like you to review to avoid those errors even though it may seem redundant.
Final Teacher Check list: Must Read
1. Please either set you camera to take the acceptable size images or resize before you submit images.
2. Fill out all the information when you register. This includes personal phone numbers, work phone, cell phone and email addresses. We must be able to contact you.
3. If a student is filling out this information, please make sure they understand all information must be submitted.
4. When taking pictures of the work:
a. Do not have a cluttered background
b. Please make sure images are registered correctly, if it is sideways, rotate it BEFORE you submit it.
c. Make sure correct lighting is used, correct in Photoshop is necessary.
d. Images that are too dark to see, or not registered on the page correctly might not be considered.
e. If you do not know how to correct images using Photoshop or another image correcting program, please let Leah know by email and she will try to help you. lschlief@ursulinedallas.org
If you have work accepted, please make sure it is packed securely using the double boxing suggested and bubble wrap. Newspaper is not an acceptable packing material for ceramics and peanuts are messy and impractical for us. Peanuts can be bagged in double plastic bags but should not be loose.
