Title: Feather Dusted
Description: For this piece, a combination of throwing in order to allow the round shape of the belly, paired with hand building in order to form more defined points and edges were used. A bowl-shaped bottom was thrown while two identical slabs were used to help create the silhouette of the bird, being supported by another back slab that curls around to form a beak and back. Once the bisk fired, the inside was painted on in 3 coats of underglaze. The feather pattern on the outside was created using a wet feather that was placed on the piece and then airbrushed over with the same turquoise underglaze as the inside. After the turquoise was applied to the inside as well as the feather pattern, a high fire glaze called "Ice" was then airbrushed onto the piece, giving it a more glossy finished look.
