Description:	My piece “Sloth” is a part of my concentration for my senior thesis. The concentration focuses around the seven deadly sins presented as modern day problems in American society and politics. This particular piece represents the deadly sin, “Sloth” because it focuses around a reliance on technology. The piece is made from clay and painted in acrylic. Sticking out of the tongue is a USB port for an iPhone charger. Relying on technology is a fundamental problem in American society that distracts us from living day to day life. People feel the need to be connected to their phones at all times. Social media and easy access to the internet has made it easy to obsessively check our phones to see what other people are doing and how many likes on a photo we got. It can cause low self of esteem, jealousy, and bad work ethic. The USB being embedded in the tongue demonstrates how we’re so connected to our phones it might as well be a part of our body. The bloody wall surrounding the face made with tissue paper, acrylic, and gloss conveys a negative connotation with depending on technology for our satisfaction and happiness. What I hope to communicate through this work is for people to think about and be more cautious on how they spend their time.
