Description: | I approached the form of this vase with intention of creating something round and elegant, and wanted to add sculptural elements that suggested a whimsical underwater setting. I crafted a serene woman with carved hair as my central figure, and placed her among the fish to suggest that she was at peace within her element. With closed eyes and more androgynous features, she seems very wise and primeval. Luckily my ceramics teacher caught onto my aquatic theme, and suggested the perfect enchanted/ underwater glaze effect; the colors and textures are exactly what I would expect to find if I were to actually unearth a magic pot from a body of water! |
