Title: | Ichthys |
Description: | Extruded coil and slab constructed form with fine surface etchings. Covered with satin glaze and oxide washes. Ichthys is a symbolic piece representing faith, specifically the Christian faith. Ichthys is a name for the fish in Christianity and is represented by the symbols IX (theta)Y(sigma). The origin of the symbol is said to represent to other Christians that they were not alone during the time of persecution in the Roman Empire. To me this is a proclamation of faith when atheism seems to be more popular for those surrounding me. |
