Title: | The Hand of Kansas City |
Description: | The one thing that inspired me to make my hand the way I did is Kansas City itself. I wanted to make this piece resemble Kansas City as much as possible but still try to keep it simple. On the 4 fingers i have the Bartle Hall sky station (originally sculpted by R.M. Fischer), I got the idea to do this the day our sculpture class went on a field trip to different art galleries around the Kansas City area. On the thumb I have sculpted a fountain because Kansas City is known as the city of fountains and it has around 200 fountains around the metro area. On the right side of the hand i have the roman numeral “MDCCCXXXVIII” and this stands for the year that Kansas City was formed which was 1838. |
