Title: | Decay |
Description: | Decay is the fourth piece of a portfolio I have created that focuses on environmentalism and wildlife conservation efforts. To create this form I began by throwing a traditional vase form on the wheel. I then proceeded to pinch out round forms to add to one side of the vessel to form the shapes of the mushrooms texture on the bark. I repeated this until I had covered a little under half of the vessel, and then began to taper off the form to fade it into the tree bark texture I carved on the other side. With this specific piece, I wanted to express my concerns of global deforestation by making the mushroom texture the focal point, as shelf-like mushroom species on trees are a sign of death and decay. |
