Title: | Weeping Virgin |
Description: | This piece is a recreation of the virgin Mary’s bust from Michelangelo's “Pieta” sculpture, in which she is cradling Jesus’ corpse. The sculpture embodies Mary’s expression and disregards any evidence of Jesus’ presence, representing the portrayal of Christianity disguising negative aspects. I considered the ambiguous aspects of 2D art and made the connection to religion being open for interpretation. The glass base follows the idea of transparency and multiple viewpoints to Christianity. |
