Title: | Dog Eat Dog |
Description: | This is a ceramic sculpture representing a tattooed Doberman biting its own tail in an act of rage and clouded judgment. Its body contorts, attempting to capture the foe that has caused it so much anguish. Only those who are on the outside can see that its enemy is itself. The dog is too busy trying to capture its enemy, a shadow that is always right behind them but just barely out of reach. The embedded tattoos are abstracted organs of a human. The dog is humanity, and it is caught in a never ending cycle of hurt due to civil injustice and wars. The title is inspired by the saying “it's a dog eat dog world,” which is where people will do anything to succeed in life, even if that puts others in jeopardy. The figure supports the narration that the dog is fighting itself in a cloud of self hatred and internal discourse. It’s willing to go as far as to bite off its own tail to show that they are “victorious.” But, this is a false sense of victory there are no winners when lives are lost. |
