Title: | Magnolia |
Description: | I threw this piece as a short white vase with a trimmed foot. I painted flowers on the outside using underglaze and then I used a bright red for the interior. For this piece I wanted to make something that reminded me of my home in Texas. When designing the piece I choose to paint magnolias all over the pot which is a very common flower in the south where I'm from. The magnolias vary in size and different stages of their growth which represents the birth and death of these beautiful flowers. They also represent my birth and departure from my home in Texas and my move to Iowa. I choose this very intense red to signify my love for Texas and also how much my life there meant to me. I wanted the piece to be subtle yet noticeable so I used a red color on the inside which grabs the viewer's attention. |
