Title: | A Reach for the Impossible |
Description: | To make the piece, I started by creating a slab of the clay. I then cut out the dimensions I wanted and pulled the cut clay into a cylinder. Once the piece was dry I drew hands on it with some parts overlapping one another. Then I went over each hand in underglaze to get the details and depth that I wanted. The meaning of this piece is reaching for perfection but never being able to reach it. The fingertips never quite reach the top of the piece showing that they don't ever reach perfection. The overlapping of the hands demonstrates how, in our attempt to reach perfection, we take inspiration from one another. It helps to show that with community and friendship we are able to reach farther for perfection. |
