Title: | Paper and Crayons: Childhood Nostalgia |
Description: | The lined paper is made with painted blue slip between layers with a red line painted down the left side. The crayons are formed and painted on with underglazes. The clay is porcelain. From the artist: Nostalgia activates several regions of the brain, the prefrontal cortex, limbic, paralimbic and midbrain areas. The impact of nostalgia in the brain has been found visible in fMRI scans (scans specifically focusing on activity in the brain). Triggering nostalgia can be done in many ways, visual reminders, music, taste, and smell have all been used to trigger the emotion. Crayola crayons trigger so many memories for me. The smell of wax, peeling the paper off the crayon and immediately regretting it, melting broken crayons in cupcake tins to make multi-colored new ones. |
