Title: Corazón Conquistado
Description: Representing the struggles and injustices the southern Native American tribes have endured attempts of forced conversion to Catholicism which has been one of the many impacts on Latin cultures. This was an important event in history that started the blend of cultures in Latin America. Therefore, I created something that represented the enforcement of Catholicism on the Aztec culture inspired by Richard Notkin’s "Heart Teapot: Homage to Archie Bray". I formed this teapot by hollowing out a solid form and hand rolling coils to create the arteries. The designs carved on the heart are all authentic Aztec pictogram designs. I used a low fire red transparent glaze.
