The story is about a young couple that falls in love but they are forbidden from marrying each other, they then flee the Village of Vaitogi. In return, the father of the daughter arises in anger, preparing to go to war to retrieve her. To avoid any bloodshed, the couple jumped off a cliff-however, instead of dying, they transformed into a turtle and a shark, destined to be and swim together forever, To call the turtle and the shark to the surface, the villagers in Vaitogi gather by the cliffs to sing a special song. Emphasizing the importance family, culture, and the endurance of strength through the love and community. |
