Title: | Flower Bottle |
Description: | In my Flower Bottle, I threw a bottle form and created the belly by doing outward pulls. Then, I created the neck by doing a series of collars until I got my desired shape. When the piece was leather hard, I threw a chuck to trim a foot. A problem I had to solve was controlling the drying of my piece in order to keep it leather hard. The design of my piece began with drawings of flowers which I emphasized with subtractive carving. The texture from the flower creates movement throughout the piece, forcing the viewer’s eyes to move about the piece. To accented the texture by inlaying celestial blue and I used a celadon glaze over the top to allow the blue to contrast the orange from the poppy glaze. This helped make the texture the focal point of the piece because blue and orange are complementary colors. |
