Title: Chaotic Creations
Description: The inspiration for this piece came about while I was investigating the oddest of places. I get the chance to participate in an anagama wood fire at a place called East Creek, on some of my time off shift I had been investigating an old slightly run down studio building that was on the kiln site. I happened upon an old piece that the previous owner of the site had made and was infatuated with it. The piece was similar to this one but each pot looked like it had been dropped with such force that the shapes and contours of the pots were almost lost. This along with another piece I had seen years ago sparked my curiosity enough to the point that I just knew I had to make one. I started by fabricating a mold I could drop the pieces into which I made in a way that the walls could pop off and leave the pot sitting on a wooden bat to dry without having to move them after throwing. This allowed me to throw these pieces of the hump and drop them into place without having to worry about them cracking apart when I move them. I tried make it so the pieces still held their definition while adding still solidly adding so the individual pots would not pop off. After the piece was bisqued I decided that I wanted to add some contrast to the work by making one pot a different color which I achieved through wax resisting. I chose a cone 6 oxidation shino glaze because I wanted all the individual pots contours and unique quirks showing. In the end I am able to hang the piece via some wire that snakes through the piece. In total the piece is comprised of roughly 50 individual pots. I plan on making five more of these which I will then put in a table that I will also create. The table will be a glass top and when you look through it there will be these six tiles of pots right underneath.
